How To Tackle Overheating In Your Lexus Car

Overheating can happen in any vehicle, regardless of its reliability or how new the car is. Especially during summer where temperatures can rise very high, the temperature within the engine bay of the car can reach approximately 200 degrees. Specifically for your Lexus car, it requires periodic maintenance to prevent problems like wear and overheating. Here are some tips to tackle overheating in your Lexus car.

Stop Driving Immediately

Continuing to drive your car whilst suffering from an overheat can result in adverse, permanent damages to the engine. It is highly suggested to stop the car as early as possible in a safe location and not obstructing the oncoming traffic. Turn the engine off when the car halts and open the hood to properly cool the engine. Make sure that the radiator is free from any foreign objects such as paper, newspaper or plastic bags. It’s important to be wary of hot coolant or steam spilling out from the overheating engine without notice.

Using the Right Type of Coolant in Different Seasons

During summer, it can get extremely hot so it’s probably best to ensure your radiator is filled with coolant. It also provides an excellent time to flush the car’s cooling system. Whilst flushing your car’s coolant, ensure that the auto services use the coolant specifically designed for use in high temperatures. It’s encouraged to have the coolants within the radiator replaced often to cater for both summer and winter conditions.

Examine Fluid Levels and Replace Oil Often

Do check the oil level repeatedly, especially during the summer heat. You should check the other fluids while checking the oil as well. Remember, don’t open the radiator cap and always use the overflow tank to bring more fluids into the radiator. The high pressure and hot environments are similar to a pressure cooker, slowly let the heat diffuse into the surroundings. Once the engine is cooled, take off the cap slowly using a towel to prevent severe burns.

Install Secondary Radiator Fan to Improve Engine Cooling

Overheating in Lexus cars are a common sight as there is insufficient air flow used for cooling the vehicle. As such, it could be necessary for you to install another radiator fan along with the extra fans directed towards components that are more susceptible to being damaged.

Leakage in the Radiator

You can easily identify any leaking coolant by examining the hoses and radiator. Damage or rust can cause a leakage, which could also result in steam being emitted out of the bonnet. You can solve this by wrapping electrical tape thickly around the damaged hose.
