How To Tackle Lexus Broken Lights

If you feel confident replacing your Lexus broken lights, by all means, give it a shot. If you're even the least bit hesitant, however, or you don't have the right tools, leave it up to the professionals.

Here are some words of advice to follow if you notice broken lights on your Lexus.

Parking Lot Incident

Let's say you parked your car in a lot outside of a store. When you are done shopping and you return to your vehicle, you notice that someone has apparently backed into your car, breaking one of the lights. Here's what to do:

  • Optional: Contact your insurance company. Be sure to take photographs of the car, damage, and surrounding area. If there was a witness who saw it happen, get their contact information.
  • To avoid injury to others, clean up the debris if possible.
  • For just a quick fix until you can get the damaged light replaced, you may choose to cover the broken area with clear, yellow, or red tape, depending on the circumstances. Use yellow for blinkers, clear for headlights, and red for brake lights. It is not advisable to drive around for lengthy periods of time this way, however.
  • Determine whether or not the bulb is still working. If not, along with the lens, you'll need to order bulbs (in the case of blinkers or parking lights/tail lights).
  • Light replacement can be done by some individuals who have a knowledge of vehicles and the right tools. Many people decide they'd rather not deal with the repair and entrust it to the professionals.

Broken or Burned Out Headlights

Headlights burn out. It's a fact of life. They can also become broken in an accident or by flying debris. Driving without a headlight should not be done for extended periods of time. As soon as you notice a problem with one or both of your headlights, it's time for replacement.

"How to" videos can be found on YouTube and other locations online. If you feel comfortable working on your car, you have the right tools, and you don't mind spending a little time doing the repair yourself, order the parts you need and give it a try. If you run into trouble or simply don't feel comfortable with this type of DIY project, leave it to the professionals.

Dome Lights

Dome lights are a pretty quick fix and can be done relatively easily. When in doubt, however, a Lexus dealer service technician can be consulted. Once again, if you do it yourself, it never hurts to look up a YouTube "How to" video.
