How To Identify Uneven Lexus Tire Wear

The truth is that uneven tire wear is an exceedingly common scenario. This is due to the fact that front tires bear more weight on top of handling more stress from braking and steering. As such, you can expect your front tires to have a shorter lifespan than that of your back tires. When there are problems with your tire pressure, you may be faced with this problem as well.

If you are concerned about uneven Lexus tire wear, you may wish to get your tires rotated regularly. Even if you don’t wish to do that, knowing when your tires have been worn out unevenly can alert you that it’s time to get one or more of your tires replaced. In this article, we share with you how to identify uneven tire wear.

Common Tire Problems

Below are some of the most common tire problems you can be faced with:

  • Underinflation, where both edges of the tire wear out
  • Overinflation, where the center of the tire wears out
  • Out of balance, where you will observe circular or semi-circular isolated areas of wear
  • Out of alignment, where uneven wear can be spotted on one or more tires
  • … and more!

Start with a Visual Inspection

When you suspect that uneven tire wear may be affecting your driving experience, always start with a quick visual inspection. Does one tire look more worn out than the others? Is there greater wear on one of the sides, in the center, or any odd wear marks? You may also wish to check for any nails or sharp items that your tires have run over.

Feel the Tread Surface

From your visual inspection, you may notice something concerning. To confirm this, gently rub your hand across the tread surface in the direction it’s going. Now, not only can you see the problem, you can feel it, too. If there’s a problem with one tire, it’s wise to check the others as well. Chances are, both front or back tires will be displaying the same signs of wear.

Carry Out the Tire Print Test

If you are still not sure, here is where you can really put your suspicions to the test. Using a cloth or towel, wet the tire treads of concern as much as possible. Then, get in your car and drive it forward – this doesn’t have to be far, just the length of your car will do. From here, it’s easy to inspect the resulting tire print for any distortions or irregularities in the tire tread. A normal print will be continuous with no interruptions.
