How To Identify Signs Of A Broken Braking System

Without the brakes on your automobile, it would certainly be a wild ride! Of all your vehicle’s systems, the braking system is one of the most crucial, so it should always operate at maximum efficiency. Imagine not being able to stop in time when a child darts out into the street.

How do you know if you are experiencing a broken Lexus braking system? Here, we are going to look at some typical braking problems and the signs that could point to them. The sooner you know you have a brake problem, the sooner you can get it fixed and everyone will be happier and safer.

Something's Burning

You may have overheated brakes if you notice a chemical-smelling odor. Let your brakes cool by pulling over to a safe place if you notice this, to avoid brake failure. Make sure the parking brake on your vehicle is not on while you drive, as well.

Braking Pull

Though any number of issues could be the cause for your car pulling to one side, it could be a caliper problem or a bad brake hose. Ordinarily, whichever side is still braking properly, your car will pull in that direction. Regular inspection of your brakes is important here because you won't always know if there is an improperly functioning rear caliper.

Soft or Spongy Brakes

You should feel some resistance when you press the brake pedal. If the pedal goes all the way down, or if the brakes feel soft, it could indicate moisture or air in the braking system. The master cylinder may also have a problem.

Fluid Leak

A lot of things happen when you apply your brakes. Brake fluid is one of the most important characters in the equation. You won't be able to stop safely if you don't have brake fluid. You may have a leak if you notice the brake fluid level declining.

Braking Vibration or Wobbling

If, when you apply the brakes, your steering wheel vibrates or shakes, there may be an uneven rotor to blame. This results from braking friction. The uneven surface causing this problem will only worsen over time if you ignore it.

Grinding

Your brakes might need servicing right away if you notice grinding noises. If you feel or hear any type of grinding, get your brakes checked.

Squeaking or Squealing

There may not be a problem even if you notice your brakes making noise. Lodged in your brakes, there might just be a foreign object (debris, a pebble, etc.). On the other hand, it may be that the brake pad wear indicators are alerting you it's time for a change. When you apply the brakes, if you hear a high-pitched noise being emitted, brake pad replacement is recommended.

Your Dashboard Brake Light

On your dashboard, there should be a warning light for your brakes. There could be a potential problem or it may simply be time for regular maintenance if the light goes on. Check out what this dashboard indicator means by looking in your vehicle owner’s manual

If your parking brake is on, that may cause the light to go on. See if it goes away when you release the parking brake.
