How To Change Lexus GS Engine Oil

If you own a Lexus GS, you know that keeping up with regular maintenance is crucial for keeping your car running smoothly. One of the most important tasks you can perform is changing the engine oil. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to change the engine oil on your Lexus GS, so you can keep your car in top condition.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you start changing your Lexus GS engine oil, you'll need to gather some materials. You'll need:

  • A new oil filter
  • Engine oil (check your car's owner manual for the recommended type and amount)
  • A wrench
  • A drain pan
  • A funnel
  • Rags or paper towels

Step 2: Warm Up Your Engine

Start by warming up your engine for a few minutes. This will make the oil flow more easily when you start draining it.

Step 3: Locate the Drain Plug

Underneath your car, you'll find an oil pan. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan. Use your wrench to loosen the drain plug but be careful not to remove it completely yet.

Step 4: Place the Drain Pan

Place your drain pan directly under the drain plug. Once it's in place, you can remove the drain plug and allow the old oil to drain out. Be sure to dispose of the old oil properly.

Step 5: Replace the Oil Filter

While the old oil is draining, it's a good time to replace the oil filter. Locate the oil filter, which is usually on the side of the engine block. Use your wrench to loosen the filter and then remove it by hand. Before installing the new oil filter, make sure to lubricate the rubber seal with some of the new oil. Then, install the new filter and tighten it by hand.

Step 6: Add New Oil

Once the old oil has finished draining and the new filter is in place, it's time to add the new oil. Use your funnel to pour the new oil into the oil filler hole. Check your owner's manual for the recommended amount of oil, and be careful not to overfill.

Step 7: Check the Oil Level

After adding the new oil, start your engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, turn off the engine and check the oil level using your car's dipstick. The oil level should be between the low and high marks on the dipstick. If it's low, add more oil as needed.

Step 8: Clean Up

Finally, clean up any spills or drips with rags or paper towels. Be sure to dispose of the used oil, oil filter, and any other materials properly.

Changing the engine oil on your Lexus GS is a relatively simple task, but it's important to do it regularly to keep your car running smoothly. By following these steps, you can change your oil at home and save money on costly trips to the mechanic. Remember to check your owner's manual for the recommended oil type and amount, and dispose of the used oil properly. With regular maintenance, your Lexus GS will continue to run like a dream.
