Do You Have A Faulty Lexus Starter?

When your car starter goes bad, you aren’t going anywhere. You may feel like you never received any warning – it just went bad one day. That's not usually the case, however. There are a number of signs that, if you are aware of them, will help you know when your starter is failing.

If you believe that you may have a faulty Lexus starter, the best thing to do is get it checked out right away – before you’re stranded. Here, we'll take a look at starters in general and talk about some of the signs that may point to the fact that yours is on its way out.

Car Starters

Two main parts make up the starter for your Lexus: the solenoid (or relay) and the primary motor. The battery in your vehicle powers the starter. So your car can get up and running, the engine is initiated by the starter. Power is transmitted by the starter relay. If either the motor or the starter relay stops working, you won't be able to move your car without a tow or a jump start.

Why Do Starters Fail?

Normal wear and tear can cause the starter to fail. Poor maintenance could be another cause. During the service of your starter, it takes a lot of abuse. On batteries and starter motors, even greater strain is placed on automobiles today that employ start/stop technology.

Signs and Symptoms That Could Point to Trouble

Ordinarily, without any signs or symptoms, the relay and motor of your starter won't just suddenly fail. It can happen, but there are usually warning signs which can include the following.

  • Smoke (due to an overheating starter)
  • After starting, the starter stays on
  • Intermittent vehicle starting problems
  • Whirring, grinding, or clicking when you turn the key or press start

Additionally, if your motor won't start even though the starter engages, there could be a problem with the flywheel.

Maybe It's Your Battery

You may think that just because your headlights are working and your dashboard is lit, the starting system is getting power. But if your engine isn't turning over, clearly, there's a problem. In order to crank your engine, a lot of power is required. If your battery is low, your vehicle may not start. With the assistance of a starter pack or jump, you may be able to start it. The source of the problem is likely a weak battery if your vehicle starts with the jump.
