When it comes to luxury sedans, there are no two bigger names than Lexus and Volvo. Both companies have been in the game for years, and they know how to make a premium sedan. Today we're looking at two new models from both brands: the 2022 Lexus IS and the 2022 Volvo S90.
Design & Style
- Exterior Design
The IS has a more aggressive, sportier look than the S90. It's sleeker and more modern, with longer and more defined lines than its rival. This is partially because of its lower roofline, which makes it seem like a bigger car than it is. The S90 has an upright profile with a high beltline (the top edge of the car) that helps make it appear taller and wider than the Lexus. The rear end on both cars features large taillights and vertical exhaust tips positioned on either side of them; however, the Volvo's lights have an extra horizontal bar running across their tops, which gives them an appearance reminiscent of those seen in older luxury vehicles from Europe (think Jaguar XJ).

The IS comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which produces 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A 3.5-liter V6 is also available on the base model, producing 311 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque.
The S90 comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, although it can be upgraded to a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine for better fuel efficiency or power if you choose the T8 plug-in hybrid variant or go all out for the T8 Twin Engine sports car.
The Bottom Line
The 2022 Lexus IS is the clear winner, thanks to its more powerful engine and all-wheel drive system. It also has a higher starting price than its competitor, so you'll get better value for your money in this instance.
