Prestige Lexus
Recall Information and Guidelines
Given the recent news reports, a number of questions have been raised about which Lexus vehicles might be involved in the recalls. Prestige Lexus will complete your recall even if you have not purchased from us. All recalls performed will receive a loaner vehicle, a complimentary car wash, and filling of your fuel tank.*
Lexus announced that it will conduct a voluntary Safety Recall to inspect the fuel pressure sensor installation. It involves approximately 245,000 2006 through 2007 Lexus GS300/350, 2006 through early 2009 Lexus IS250, and 2006 through early 2008 Lexus IS350 vehicles sold in the U.S. Due to insufficient tightening of the fuel pressure sensor connected to certain engine fuel delivery pipes (those with Nickel Phosphorus plating), there is a possibility that the pressure sensor could loosen over time. If loosening occurs, fuel could leak past a gasket used in the connection between the sensor and the delivery pipe and through the threaded portion of the sensor. We will inspect the vehicle for fuel leakage and if no leakage is found, will tighten the fuel pressure sensor with the proper torque. If a fuel leak is confirmed, the gasket between the sensor and the delivery pipe will be replaced and the sensor will be tightened with the proper torque. The inspection and possible gasket replacement will be conducted at no charge to the vehicle owner.
Lexus announced they will conduct a voluntary recall on 2004 through 2006 Lexus RX330, and 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350 vehicles sold in the United States to address the possibility that a small amount of the brake fluid could slowly leak from the brake master cylinder, resulting in illumination of the brake warning lamp. The Toyota genuine brake fluid used during vehicle assembly for vehicles sold in the United States contains polymers. The polymers act as lubricants for certain brake system components. If during vehicle maintenance, brake fluid is used that does not contain such polymers or only small amounts, a part of the internal rubber seal (brake master cylinder cup) located at the end of the brake master cylinder piston may become dry and may curl during movement of the piston. If this occurs, a small amount of the brake fluid could slowly leak from the brake master cylinder into the brake booster, resulting in illumination of the brake warning lamp. If the brake warning lamp has illuminated and the vehicle continues to be operated without refilling the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir, the driver will begin to notice a spongy or soft brake pedal feel and braking performance may gradually decline. Owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail beginning in early November 2010. Lexus dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup with a newly designed one at no charge to the vehicle owners.
Lexus intends to conduct a voluntary safety recall of approximately 39,000 2003-2007 Model Year LX 470 vehicles to address a steering shaft condition. No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in this safety recall. Lexus has determined that the construction of the steering shaft on involved LX 470s is such that the snap ring on the shaft may disengage when the vehicle experiences an unusually severe impact to the front wheels, such as striking a deep pothole. If the snap ring becomes disengaged and the steering wheel is then repeatedly turned to the full locked position, the steering shaft may disengage over time. Lexus is not aware of any accidents related to this condition. The remedy for this condition involves replacing the snap ring with a newly designed one and the installation of an additional component to prevent separation of the steering shaft. Lexus will begin sending out notification to owners of involved vehicles by first class mail beginning in mid-August 2010.
Lexus Announces Intention to Recall Certain Vehicles to Replace Engine Valve Springs
Lexus vehicles, powered by 4.6 and 5.0 liter V8 and 3.5 liter V6 engines in certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, IS and LS models in the U.S., will be voluntarily recalled. In the covered vehicles, due to slight variations during the manufacturing process, some foreign material may have contaminated a small number of the valve springs. If a vehicle is affected, there is a remote possibility that abnormal engine noise or idling may occur. In extremely rare instances, the engine may stop while the vehicle is in operation. Lexus has received no reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition. No vehicles from the current 2010 model year nor 2009 are affected. In July 2010, Lexus will begin sending out owner notifications by mail advising owners to have the affected valve springs replaced with newly designed ones at no charge. If you notice symptoms, such as abnormal engine noise, vibration, poor performance, please contact us at 201-825-2800.
Lexus Announces Intent to Conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall on Certain 2010 Lexus HS 250h Models
As part of its annual compliance testing program, NHTSA recently conducted an FMVSS 301 (Fuel system integrity) which establishes performance requirements to protect against fuel leaks following a crash. The compliance test was conducted on a 2010 model year HS 250h vehicle and involved striking the subject vehicle from the rear at approximately 50 mph. Following the impact, the test vehicle is rotated on its longitudinal axis to each successive increment of 90 degrees. During the rotation, the vehicle exhibited fuel spillage which exceeded the requirement of the standard. It is important to note that during vehicle development, Lexus conducted testing utilizing the same protocol. The Lexus tests showed the vehicles fully comply with the FMVSS 301. Lexus is working to identify the reason for the different test results and to identify the cause of the noncompliance. At the present time, Lexus is not aware of any accidents involving this issue and has not identified a remedy for this noncompliance. As soon as a remedy is developed, Lexus will notify owners of covered vehicles by first-class mail.
Lexus has voluntarily recalled 2010 GX 460 models in order to update software in the vehicle's Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, which helps maintain traction in turns as a result of front or rear wheel slippage during cornering. If the vehicle is driven through a sharp turn under certain high-speed conditions, the rear tires could lose traction. The issue will not always manifest, as it depends on road conditions, driving conditions and the vehicle's load. If you currently drive a 2010 GX460, we encourage you to bring your vehicle to Prestige Lexus at your earliest convenience for the update at no cost. No other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S., due to differences in a combination of weight balance, front and rear suspension design and equipped tires.
Lexus Announces Voluntary Safety Recall for Select 2009 and 2010 LS 460, LS 460 L and LS 600h L models
Lexus has identified a condition in which some 2009 and 2010 LS models have experienced a brief off-center position of the steering wheel when it is turned to the extreme right or left position and re-centered, but corrects itself within a few seconds as the vehicle is driven. The remedy in place is to modify the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) system at no charge to you. There have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this condition in the U.S., and no other Lexus models are involved in this recall.
Floor Mat Entrapment- Affecting 2007-2010 ES350 models and 2006-2010 IS250 and IS350 models
In rare cases, the accelerator pedal can get stuck in the open throttle position due to its being trapped by an unsecured or incompatible driver’s floor mat. The remedy in place for this recall at no charge to you is to:
· shorten the accelerator pedal on the ES350 and replace the gas pedal pad on IS models to reduce the possibility of floor mat entrapment
· modify carpet padding for additional clearance,
· install revised all-weather floor mats to provide additional clearance
· install electronic override to cut engine power when the gas and brake are pressed simultaneously.
Inconsistent Brake Pedal Feel During ABS Operation - Affecting 2010 HS250h
Owners have experienced inconsistent brake feel during slow and steady application of the brakes on rough or slick surfaces when the ABS system is activated in an effort to maintain tire traction. The remedy in place for this recall at no charge to you is for dealership technicians to perform an update to the vehicle’s software to improve brake pedal feel.
Excessive Accelerator Pedal Friction – Toyota Campaign
This campaign is currently being performed on eight Toyota models to reduce friction in the accelerator pedal assembly. NO LEXUS MODELS are involved in this campaign.
